What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding?

Every so often there is an occurrence that reminds me that there is more good in this world than bad. Something happens that offers hope and helps me to feel like I really do live in a world community of people who want nothing more than Peace and Joy and Love - and Understanding.

Unfortunately, it is sometimes so much easier to find what is wrong in this world; to see the natural disasters and - worse - the man-made ones. It is easy to see only pain and destruction...but every so often there comes that moment that brings tears to my eyes and reminds me that we really are a Loving people; despite the endless crap, People Really are Good.

I had such a moment this morning.

I received "Obama's Call to Service" invitation. When I punched in my zip code to search for events in my area, I thought to myself, "what if no one signed up?"

Instead this is what popped up. Look at all of these events and read their descriptions. Feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, cleaning up parks...it is endless.

People are searching for direction on what they can do to help. People want to give. Even during this time when so many are suffering and so many do not know where their next rent check or mortgage payment or meal will come from, they are still ready to jump up and give of themselves.

Damn, I love it when my eyes are filled with these kinds of tears...

Find events here.

OMG, and all those activities are just between January 17 - 19. Amazing!

Many of us have been left, after eight years of George Bush, pestimistic and jaded. While Kennedy brought out the best in Americans, Bush brought out the worse.

Pessimistic and jaded? yeah, that's me.

Maybe the rest of the world seems to be slowly improving. Meanwhile, my belief that I'm a worthless sack of shit continues down the winding staircase . .

And, they are all within a 50 mile radius. I just find this unbelievable...and it makes me want to get involved.

I am signing up for an event because I just happen to have access to a specific item that is needed so I am picking it up and heading over. I love this.

His org is now working as a clearing house to bring together people with varying skills and access to certain things and different time levels and energy levels to get together and do things.

I read one of the descriptions for activity by a local College...they are doing several different events. One is at a retirement community one is at an elementary school and one is cleaning up a foster care center. So people have opportunity to do several different things depending on their skills and desires AND it is happening all over the country...it really is very cool.

That does not sound pessimistic and jaded; that sounds depressed and depressed.

Luckily my mood seems to be fairly stable and good - despite the fact that my world is falling apart around me. (and within my physical self)

I just wish that I could have more alone time...the Holiday just about killed me with all of the people home all of the time.

I physically hurt when trying to talk to people and people seem to want to talk all of the time. I just want quiet. Peace and quiet. Lots and lots of peace and quiet.

I have about 2 hours a day where I can interact with people - kiddo gets all of it. Then I have nothing left. Absolutely nothing.

I am sorry that you are not doing well, id. I have been thinking about you a lot lately. Let us know how you are from time to time - don't be a stranger and know that I love you. You are not a worthless POS in my world.

Oh Idio, you are anything but a POS. I don't know you personally, but I do know that I have been reading your words for years now, and nothing you have written would lead me to believe your a POS. In fact, quite the opposite.

Anjha, knowing how little energy you have most days, I admire your getting involved.

Idio, you sound like me! I'll not have it! You're one of the smartest guys around, you have a good heart, and we love you. Boy, the holidays took a lot out of you, didn't they? If you need to talk, please email me. Whatever's going on, you're not alone!

Anjha, great post, I'm going to bookmark the page, I need a new hobby, since the 'nets have gone wacky.

Aw, c'mon, snark, some freak may have accused you of being dickish (lemme at 'em, the jerk!), but I've known pieces of shit, I work with pieces of shit, and you are no piece of shit.

And you, Sir, are no piece of shit!
