My favorite shoes

Melissa's posting on her favorite shoes in an effort to avoid the primary garbage, and while I'm not a shoe person, I've got a favorite pair right here. (Besides those lovely Prada pumps I posted on way back when...) Is there something that you absolutely can't help buying or just drooling over, even though you already have a million of them you don't use or can't afford another?

But I thought that "Iraq was the central front on the war on terra"?!

Not according to the GAO.

After the U.S. invasion in Afghanistan, Taliban and al-Qaida fighters retreated across the mountainous 373-mile border into Pakistan's unpoliced tribal areas.

But we've given Pakistan almost as much money as we spend on one month in Iraq.

Isn't that enough?

I listened to some of the GAO report being read and it is bad news. I doubt that we will hear much about it from the corporate media. Luckily the PDF of the actual report is linked to; I'm sure that most people will have the time to read it.

Is there one single thing that this Administration has done that actually benefits this Country? Have they handled anything correctly? Anything?

Couple things.

My thoughts on the debate last night:

"Senator Clinton, cardboard applicators or plastic?"

"Senator Obama, if elected, how long can the people expect to wait before you reveal yourself as an al-Qaeda/Nation of Islam sleeper cell?"

What is wrong with people, honestly? Can we really do no better? And why won't anybody say anything?

My thoughts on the election: McCain is still poison. He's Bush with a frontal lobe, and yet people are gonna vote for him anyway. Remember that.

What Drives Consumption

Recently, I had come to the conclusion that the car I was leasing - yes, leasing - wasn't cutting it any longer. My wife and I moved to a small town this summer and I now commute every day on the highway or interstate, rather than simply driving local streets. I loved this car, but I was hardly ever hauling computers, almost always on the interstate with no cruise control and with kids and no side impact protection, and driving at least 4 hours every weekend. And my mileage was going to pot with no overdrive. If I'm paying for the pleasure of a car, I better damn well have a car that meets my needs.

So I took the car in and made a deal similar for the previous car for new car that meets the new requirements. My wife also used the opportunity to get rid of her !%$%^^& falling apart SUV traded in for something more efficient and cheaper. It's all good as much as it can be.

But the car has one little devil. An iPod jack. I've avoided the iPod mania with other non-proprietary media players that are usually much cheaper or have better features. But the iPod jack? It seductively calls to me. "Moooooore podcasts" "No moooore fumbling blindly" "No more thrown away CDs" "Your little MP3 player got stolen by your 9 year-old" "You never listen to anything but podcasts anymore"

So Much Wrong . .

. . it makes my brain hurt

GRANTHAM, Pa. — A candidate forum devoted to issues of faith and justice became another flash point for Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton to spar in their intensifying nominating fight, with the candidates exchanging frosty glances Sunday night as their paths briefly crossed on stage.

Y'know what? Without even seeing photos, I'm calling bullshit. It wasn't a joint photo op, & neither Senator probably anticipated this meeting. Shame on the reporter - and since the byline reads John Broder, you have to wonder if there's a relation to the Broder who we all know and despise.

Mrs. Clinton mentioned the pope’s impending visit and praised his commitment to health and poverty issues around the world. In response to a question about when life began, Mrs. Clinton replied, “I believe that the potential for life begins at conception.”

Pander much, Senator?

Mr. Obama was forced to address those comments, repudiating Mr. Wright’s most radical views while saying he still felt a strong bond to the man who helped bring him to his Christian faith.

“There’s been this notion that he was, by various terms, my spiritual adviser or my spiritual mentor,” Mr. Obama said. “You know, he’s been my pastor.” He called some of Mr. Wright’s comments “deeply offensive and are contrary to what I believe.”

It's not throwing him under the bus. Really.
