Where were you when Senator Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States? Did you go to any parties? Any balls? Did you get to dress up? Was it enjoyable or do you wish that you would have done something different?

I hope that whatever you did that it was marked with many memories. This will be one of those events that people will ask in the future, "Where were you, what were you doing?"

Let's Play

The TeeVees are all in a twitter over who Obama will appoint as Labor Secretary.

Although he is desperately needed at the UAW, I think that it would send a great message to appoint Gettelfinger.

If not Gettelfinger, I would like to see John Edwards. I know. I know. However, I think that Edwards proved that he will take on the business, corporate and monied interests in a big way.

I Disagree

Even after the reprieve of two movies today, I am already bored with the whole Blagojevich crap.

I found this interesting though.

Jane Hamsher thinks that if Caroline Kennedy wants the NY Senate Seat, then she should campaign for it.

I get her point. I do. She says that we do not need political dynasties, blah, blattity, blah. The thing is though that the Kennedys already are a political dynasty. We can't stop that. It already happened, years before I was born.

I say, get over it. If New York does not mind, then neither do I. Also, it is only for two years and then she will have to campaign for it.

Caroline Kennedy is a progressive and everything that she has done she has done with humility and honor. Give it to her. Or not. Truth is, it is not up to us, it is up to the Governor of New York. That is what our laws say. I'll abide with whatever Patterson does. I won't complain or cheer. Honestly, with Bush still in office for another 41 days, we have a whole lot of other shit to worry about.

What Does this Say?

Yesterday kiddo and I were working out in the yard (believe it or not our grass is still growing – I even have a very confused Easter Lily that is ready to bloom. I have covered her at night for the last month so that she does not freeze, but we did not have our first actual frost until Saturday.) Anyhow, kiddo and I were working out in the yard and he said to me:

“My friend Anthony’s mom is a big-time Democrat too. She stays in her pajamas and blogs all day when she isn’t working too…[this was not the purpose of his story – his story was actually about Anthony's shirt] …He has a t-shirt that says ‘THINK – it’s still allowed – for now’.”

What does this say? I am still not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing or if it is just a terribly funny reality.

I did not ask him if Anthony’s mom was sick as well, I just said that he should “hook us up because we would probably get along great,” (as long as we could do it via IM and not actually have to talk to each other, or anything as radical as that.)

The Next Hail Mary?!

Everyone is wondering what John McCain will do next to get some attention on his floundering campaign. Why he would want attention, when getting people to actually pay attention to his idiocy always seems to backfire, is beyond me; but he wants it nonetheless.

Remember, a while ago, when the conventional wisdom was "if the election is about Obama, then he'll lose - If it is about McCain, then Obama will win." Remember that? I guess John McCain does not.

There has been a lot of talk about dropping Palin. The linked article talks about Palin's debate prep strategy, but there is a little gem buried in it:

For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said. Accordingly, her family will be with her in Sedona during this week. Also, a key Alaska staffer joined the Palin operation Sunday.

So, they might be laying the groundwork for Palin to drop out, due to "family considerations." This was the recommendation of the conservative pundit, Kathleen Parker, last week, who called for her to quit.

Pulling an Eagleton with Palin just does not seem risky enough for McCain. He seems to like those really big, really bizarre moves, or the really slimy ones.

I have a hard time believing that even the McCain/Palin campaign would be so horrible as to force a 17 year old girl into such a disgusting ploy for media attention, but, who knows anymore. I just can't imagine that they would do that to her. That quote though, supposedly from the McCain adviser, is just too much:

“It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

Gross. It is just too hard to believe.

Holy Crap Coyote - Terrifying

Yesterday, Coyote posted this in a thread over at TLC.

I finally read it this morning.

Good gawd.

I am not at all well versed in military issues and I do not really understand the law when it comes to these kinds of things. However, my limited understanding is enough to scare the crap out of me when I read an article like that. So, I have some questions.

1. Isn't it against the law to turn the military against the people?

2. When Bush attempted to destroy posse comitatus, didn't the Congress restore it within a few months?

3. Aren't these types of missions what the National Guard are supposed to be used for?

4. Doesn't this take control away from the Governors of the states and give it to the President and the Pentagon?

5. Do the Governors know about this "new policy" and what do they say about it?

6. Isn't it curious that it begins October 1st? My guess is that it is being put in place so that those unruly Democrats don't get too out of line when they are attempting to vote November 4th (attmpting to vote, or demanding that their franchise not be denied.) And, even more likely, that the unruly Democrats don't raise too much hell, taking to the streets, when this election is again stolen from us.

This will also come in handy when the economic meltdown hits and many, many Americans are left homeless. When the rabble take to the streets and demand that the top 5%, secure in their gated communities, give us some food and shelter - the marines can shut those demonstations down too.

Mine seems to be phycology psychology. I'm always missing the "S" or getting the consonants mixed up. But that goes for all those words with medical or academic meaning.

Not according to the GAO.

After the U.S. invasion in Afghanistan, Taliban and al-Qaida fighters retreated across the mountainous 373-mile border into Pakistan's unpoliced tribal areas.

But we've given Pakistan almost as much money as we spend on one month in Iraq.

Isn't that enough?

I listened to some of the GAO report being read and it is bad news. I doubt that we will hear much about it from the corporate media. Luckily the PDF of the actual report is linked to; I'm sure that most people will have the time to read it.

Is there one single thing that this Administration has done that actually benefits this Country? Have they handled anything correctly? Anything?

What it All Means

It’s not just a waste of ink.

Apparently, doodling actually means something and can tell us something about ourselves. (Yes, a study was commissioned.)

“Abstract shapes signify freethinkers unlimited by boundaries. Boxes within boxes could mean feeling trapped or overwhelmed, while linked boxes point to linked ideas and a desire to construct.

Flowers, the study said, are the work of creative or self-absorbed people. Spirals drawn outward show the desire to move on; toward the inside, a desire to focus.”

My doodles tend to be extravagant asterisks, where the feathery circle rainbows out from the center. I also doodle lines that look like flames. I always doodle when on the phone and I will do it on whatever paper tends to be lying around. In my house it is usually envelopes (because it takes me forever to deal with my mail.)
