The Republican fuckwads are not only sabatoging the stimulus package they are also sabatoging the Senator's call lines.
Interstingly the toll free numbers to the capitol switchboard aren't working. In addition, the Senator's mailboxes are full and the lines are busy.
The fucking GOP are going all out, using every one of their email lists to encourage their people to call in and oppose the package and support McCain's stoopid fucking substitute which is nothing but more tax cuts and military fucking spending. Every Puke Senator is going to the floor with all kinds of "evidence" claiming the McCain's substitute is the only stimulus that will work. Dicks.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. These Republican hacks are the very definition of insanity.
It is war - their people are calling and our Senators are getting nervous because the Dems are just not organized enough to email all of their lists. God they suck at politicking. It is a wonder that any of them ever get elected.
CALL NOW!! Tell these dumb asses that McCain's package is a fucking joke.

Foresight
One of the things that I have appreciated about Obama is his ability to see things in a big-picture way and to anticipate possible difficulty and develop solutions long before the situation actually presents itself.
Obama is a big picture guy. That is what is impressive about him. He was not a "tactic" obsessed candidate like McCain, Barack Obama was completely strategically focused. The most telling moment in the debates was when McCain accused Obama of not knowing the difference between a tactic and a strategy - I think that everyone watching that debate knew that the opposite was true. I believe that that moment helped to sink McCain.
Josh at TPM points out just how "radical" that Barack Obama is. Radical enough to understand that the Constitution is the boss of them all.
Josh linked to the very thing that I like most about Obama and what I most look forward to in an Obama Administration. Planning, foresight, anticipation and transparency. He also demands involvement from us.
Obama is putting every plan and every idea up front for us to be a part of.
He has a page to share our vision.
He has a page to share our stories.
He is also taking applications!
He also prominently links to the GSA site that explains the presidential transition in detail.
Truthfully - can anyone - even ardent McCain supporters, imagine John McCain being this organized, inclusive and transparent? John McCain may be a number of things - but he is not a man of foresight. He does not see things in a big picture way. He would not include us in his Administration.
I have long believed that Barack Obama's strength as a Community Organizer, his belief that change happens from the bottom up, would lead to a presidency that would make it easy and demand that the people are involved. I have believed that he would demand that we pay attention to our government and stay involved - the opposite of which allows presidents to get away with the crap that GW Bush got away with. I think that this website is a start in that direction.
Damn. I am impressed.

Rabid
The Right Wing has become increasingly rabid. I become ill, literally, when Sarah Palin comes across the TeeVee screeching her disgusting lies. She really is a piece of work and her bullshit has encouraged the other hate mongers to come out in droves. Here is a small compilation of the hatred that they are spreading.
Click read more to see the disgusting actions of the Right Wing.
Cunningham alleges that Obama wants to “gas the Jews.”
Savage accuses anyone who supports equal rights in CA of being anti-family and anti-God.
Hannity refuses to apologize for his hate spreading.
Rose Tennent claims that the people in Obama’s ad aren’t really struggling.
DHS helps in smearing Obama.
Conyers makes clear that the DHS leak is illegal.
GOP mailer suggests Obama presidency could lead to a second Holocaust.
Anonymous Liberal tells the truth about the “redistributionist” smear. h/t Paradox
Liddy claims that the “welfare class” will elect Obama.
McCainism
Palin’s angry mob rally (yes, another one.)
Another Obama socialist mailer.
Obama repeatedly compared to Hitler.
All of these disgusting tactics are new. They just popped up on websites today. What's worse is that I could have kept going, there were more everywhere that I looked.
How horrible is the GOP to continue this shit? They want to divide us. They want to exploit fear and hatred. They want to kill the goodness in America. When they kill the goodness then what is left?
The contrast between Obama messaging and McCain messaging is so stark. I cannot imagine anyone being pulled into the McCain-Palin mind set. Their hate fests are evil. I just do not understand it.
What I do know is that if we are going to stop this crap in our country, then we absolutely must stop this. We cannot allow these people to be rewarded for their hatred. Every single vote for John McCain rationalizes and legitimizes what they are doing. That alone is enough to vote Obama. Let’s take back our country. Please, America, stop the hatred.

New Polls
I'm sure that you all have heard about the new poll showing Obama with his widest lead yet.
When I woke up this morning and turned on MSNBC, I was a little surprised at what I was hearing. Here was the analysis, in summary.
It was one of the most interesting, no shit analyses that I have ever heard.

When I woke up this morning and turned on MSNBC, I was a little surprised at what I was hearing. Here was the analysis, in summary.
When John McCain acts like an asshole, the people actually perceive him to be an asshole.
When John McCain runs his campaign like a great big dick, the people see him as a great big dick. The voters really do not like big dicks.
When Sarah Palin acts like a moron, the people question her ability to be Vice President.
When Sarah Palin riles up her crowds and foments violence, the voters notice that she is fomenting violence and riling up her crowds.
In summary, when John McCain and Sarah Palin show that they are cruel, unqualified, have poor temperament and seek to divide the Nation rather than bring us together - the people actually prefer the candidate who appears qualified, calm and seeks to bring us together.
It was one of the most interesting, no shit analyses that I have ever heard.

When Desperation Reeks
The McCain/Palin campaign has slithered into the depths of hell.
Not only has this latest display exposed them as the frauds that they are; no real ideas, lying about "honorable" campaigning and their inability to focus on a unified message that relates to something that the American people care about. This latest episode in the erratic McCain campaign has also shown that John McCain is completely unable to even control his own crowds.
If he cannot get a handle on the few hundred radicals in his crowds, how on earth can he be expected to be able to handle being Commander in Chief?
As President, McCain will be expected to handle all kinds of frightening and overwhelming tasks. He will have to control the unruly and provide leadership in really trying times. His latest town halls have proven that he is not a leader, not in any way, shape or form. He has appeared impotent and weak...not at all the reassuring leader that we need at this time.
McCain and Palin are playing with fire. They can't control it and they do not have any ideas of how to deal with what they have created.
McCain now looks even more feeble and weak than he did before. Their "tactic" has backfired and they have proven that they have no strategy. Their Desperation Reeks and the smell is overpowering even them.

It's Intentional
There has been a lot of talk about the radical nature of the McCain-Palin campaigns. The angry mob gatherings.
What's worse is that the people are not only all whipped up about Obama and socialists and terrorists, etc people are terrified about the financial crisis.
A recent study has shown that when people become insecure they are more apt to believe in conspiracy theories; conspiracy theories like the one that Barack Obama is somehow an actual terrorist. So, not only are people freaked the fuck out about their entire financial existence and their abilities to stay in their homes and feed their families, they are also more susceptible to being mind-fucked.
We also know that depression increases and so do crime rates when the economy tanks.
The McCain-Palin campaign is taking an environment where there has been an extreme drought, an excessive amount of dry underbrush and they are throwing gasoline on it and fanning the flames.
I believe that this is intentional. They want to incite riots. This is their intent. The pundits are all asking "why is he doing this? This is a bad campaign strategy." It is not a bad campaign strategy if they want to call off the elections.
Remember when Coyote brought up that story in the Army Times? It makes sense now, doesn't it?
Well, yes I am paranoid (times of insecurity cause that, you know,) but just because I am paranoid does not mean that they aren't out to get us.
McCain's bizarre campaign does not make sense unless causing riots is his intent.

Dying of Shame
John McCain looked a little older last night. A little more decrepit. A little less able to move around the room in the "town hall" setting that supposedly benefits him. If there is any humanity left in him, I might be thinking that he was dying of shame.
Someone else noticed that McCain seemed pissed just because he had to share the stage with a black man. I saw that too, quite a while ago.
McCain makes it clear that it is not only pure injustice that he, a man from a family of slave owners, would have to share the stage with a black man; McCain is indignant that he would even have to campaign against him.
Then I read this and some of the articles that it links to.
McCain's obvious racist indignation and disgusting behavior over the last few weeks is enough to have him hang his head and quietly leave the public eye forever. Just retire to one of your many homes Johnny Mac. Please let us be, spare us from your ugliness.
Unfortunately, the danger that McCain and Palin are engaged in are enough for us all to be ashamed. As a Nation we cannot stand for this. We cannot allow the McCain campaign to smear the entire nation with their bigotry and their dangerous attempts to incite violence. It might be too late for him to just walk away though; the behavior that he is participating in must be punished.
John McCain, it seems, would rather encourage the death of his opponent than lose an election. This kind of behavior should not be celebrated; he should be arrested, thrown in prison and held up as the living example of our disgusting past. A past that we will not return to.
John McCain is not just old - it seems that John McCain is dying of shame.

I Have Stuff to Do
OK, I have been out ill for a couple of weeks so I am really far behind, on everything. Everywhere I turn, however, there are so many things that need to be read. Jeebus. There is a ton of news out there!
Here are some quick hits, that I felt worth the share.
Sarah's mindless populism.
It is "us against them" - in the sleaziest way.
McCain campaign is empty. It is very empty, like those gas pumps in Georgia.
A couple of ways to suppress the votes. It by no means includes all of them, or even a portion of them, but it is a nice easy slide show for those low info voters (whose votes will probably be suppressed.)
Howard Wolfson is pretty damned confident. I am not this confident, but the news is a whole lot better than it was a month ago.
"Just like us!" Really people, are you sure you want someone as VP who is just like your neighbor, cousin, the grocery store clerk? Really? Someone vindictive and cruel and selfish and stupid? Someone who lacks the intellectual curiosity of a chimp? Are you sure? America, the land of mediocrity.
I am done now. I have stuff to do.

The Most Psychological Projection Ever! Quote of the Day
Early this morning John McCain's spokespeople were on the TV decrying all of Obama's "questionable" associations. One of them pointed to the article in today's NYT regarding Obama's "relationship" with Bill Ayers.
I dutifully went to NYT.com to see what kind of relationship was portrayed. Obviously, the article says that there was no relationship, no friendship, no association other than the fact that they both cared about improving education. (OMG what a terrible person that Obama is!!)
What is most hillarious (or terrifying) about the article in the Times, is this quote from John McCain:
Seriously, John, are you fucking kidding me? What was it that you were doing in Vietnam all those many years ago? You dick. See a therapist, now John. Then drop out of the race and save the country from your craziness.

The Next Hail Mary?!
Everyone is wondering what John McCain will do next to get some attention on his floundering campaign. Why he would want attention, when getting people to actually pay attention to his idiocy always seems to backfire, is beyond me; but he wants it nonetheless.
Remember, a while ago, when the conventional wisdom was "if the election is about Obama, then he'll lose - If it is about McCain, then Obama will win." Remember that? I guess John McCain does not.
There has been a lot of talk about dropping Palin. The linked article talks about Palin's debate prep strategy, but there is a little gem buried in it:
So, they might be laying the groundwork for Palin to drop out, due to "family considerations." This was the recommendation of the conservative pundit, Kathleen Parker, last week, who called for her to quit.
Pulling an Eagleton with Palin just does not seem risky enough for McCain. He seems to like those really big, really bizarre moves, or the really slimy ones.
I have a hard time believing that even the McCain/Palin campaign would be so horrible as to force a 17 year old girl into such a disgusting ploy for media attention, but, who knows anymore. I just can't imagine that they would do that to her. That quote though, supposedly from the McCain adviser, is just too much:
Gross. It is just too hard to believe.
So, my question is, what do you think will be McCain's next big move?

For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said. Accordingly, her family will be with her in Sedona during this week. Also, a key Alaska staffer joined the Palin operation Sunday.(h/t to Mudflats for pointing this out.)

Today's Talking Point
McCain wants us to believe that Palin is ready to be President of the United States when the campaign openly admits that she is not ready to deal with a press conference.
She's not a "pitbull." She's a bully and a coward.
The press needs to do their job and Palin needs to be made available to them.

Boxer on Palin
California's Democratic Senator, Barbara Boxer, cuts to the quick on Sarah Palin. (my highlights)
The Vice President is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour’s worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice.Thank you Barbara for all you do!
If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart.
Senator McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a women on his ticket, such as Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison or Senator Olympia Snowe – they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice. In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature which makes this more incomprehensible. - Barbara Boxer

Major Lost Opportunity
Wow
Just Wow
Holy Fuck, Wow
I had heard that the media needed to “get over it.” Who is it that will not let it die?
Hillary did a phenomenal job last night. It was, by far, the most brilliant speech that I have ever seen her give. She was awesome. I cried and when it was over, I felt unified.
There was the opportunity today to take her lead and the energy that she offered us - all of us Democrats - to move forward and to win this election. She gave us all a mandate to "keep going" and to not look back. She told us what was important and she reiterated that this is not about the primaries, not about her and not about Obama.
And it is certainly not about people's ego based necessity to be right and to spew "I told you so"s all over the Nets.
This is politics goddammit...there will be disappointment and hurt feelings and anger, but all of those feelings do not outweigh the feelings that come as a result of the policies enacted by the politicians once we get them into office.
My principles and my hurt feelings and all of that crap will not help me when the banks fold and the mortgage forecloses and gas is $10.00 a gallon. A McCain presidency will ensure all of that horrible crap and worse. I am worried about those feelings...the ones that I would have to experience under a McCain presidency.
Whatever happened in the primaries, whatever injustices occurred, or personality crap that people want to continue to replay will not save my kid from the draft that McCain will have to enact for his "more wars." My fight is to make sure that I never feel that; not re-hashing anything experienced over these last many months.
Hillary was awesome last night. Lovely. It is a new chapter in this process; we are now in the General Election. It is time to turn the page, take every opportunity afforded us and recognize the chance that we have right now to stop the insanity of the Republicans. No matter what we wanted or who we wanted for our Nominee, Obama is what we've got.
It's General Election time now. I really don’t care who was “right” last week, last month, last year or yesterday. I care about what is right now, and what is right now is to elect a Democrat as President, a Democratic majority in the Congress and a Democratic majority in the State Legislatures. The census and redistricting are coming and we have an opportunity for Democratic majorities for a long time to come.
There is a whole lot of shit to fix in this country. We don’t have time to replay this crap. We have huge opportunities to really get some fantastic Progressive legislation enacted. John McCain is the antithesis of everything that I believe in; to allow some old resentment, that Hillary herself seems to have gotten over, to get in the way of saving our Country is short sighted and selfish.
Let’s not waste anymore opportunities.

I'm just gonna say this...
Everyone is flippin' out that Obama is not doing X and he is doing Y and he probably is not electable and what if Hillary was right and if only this or what if that and how come he is not sitting in the White House right fucking now solving problems?!?!
First of all, Chuck Todd says that a 5-6 point lead translates into something like 350 electoral votes. 350 electoral votes is really, really good.
This map is good but this one is better. Either way - Obama beats 270 in both of them. I don't care if he gets 271...just as long as it is more than McCain.
And - about those 5-6 point leads. The race is NOT a tie. And Obama's lead has been consistent and constant.
Although I did not read the earlier provided link by SoS, I got the gist of the poster being thrilled to death about Obama's ground game. The guy might have been overly creamed about registering voters, but he was not wrong about the mobilization. It is a big deal and the real deal. Not only are we registering so many new voters, the Republicans, in 26 states or so, have lost over 1.4 million registered Republicans. Remember, the polls do not reflect new voters and young people with cell phones only.
Maybe the pessimism is fueled by the trappings of a dumb ass media. Or, maybe we are all just so wounded from 7 years of the Bush Administration robbing us blind and beating us to death, perhaps the bruises are so deep that we do not believe in anything anymore. Maybe we are so used to bitching and being right about the destruction around the corner that we are incapable of dealing with anything that might be OK. Anything that might actually help this country move forward a little, heal a little, just seems like pie in the sky delusion. Don't know.
What I do know is that the other post that I was going to put up I wrote a week or so ago...it is titled "We Are So Screwed" - I just could not go there right now, again, still. I deserve to be optimistic for a minute. To feel fucking OK.
We have got to get Obama's back and start doing some of the shit for him that we all complain that he isn't doing right. We could post all of the McCain gaffes. We could outline his flips and flops and most certainly McCains absolute hypocrisy. We could even (well, the more media savvy ones) could make some very cool anti-McCain commercials. The YouTubes just right there, waiting for an upload.
Besides, I want to see this VP picked. This would just make everything right and good with the world.

Take that McRube!
Johnathan Martin at Politico got to the bottom of Obama not checking in on the injured troops at Ramstein AFB, Germany.

VoteVets, the pro-Democrat group of retired military personnel, counters McCain's Black Hawk down statement with some outrage from Col. Katherine Scheirman (Ret.), the retired Chief of Medical Operations for United States Air Force in Europe Headquarters at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany:Once again, Obama doesn't have to lower himself to his opponents level. Will it work through November?"John McCain's new ad is dishonest and shameful, and I say that as the former Chief of Medical Operations. Senators Hagel and Reed confirmed to Bob Schieffer yesterday that Senator Obama visited the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad as a part of their CODEL, with no media present.
"In Germany, Senator Obama made the right decision to respect wounded troops, and the doctors and nurses doing crucial and time-sensitive work, by not making a visit that was characterized as a campaign event by the Pentagon. Senator Obama should be thanked for putting our military above politics. And, I would hope that John McCain would think in those same terms, the next time he is put in a similar situation.
"Senator Obama has voted for the troops when John McCain has not, most recently on the new GI Bill. I am happy that Senator Obama puts the welfare of our troops above politics."
Also, it's notable that Obama's camp, quick to respond to most every charge and ever-conscious of not repeating the mistakes of Kerry, has yet to go on the air with a spot pushing back against McCain's charge on the troop visit. Apparently, they won't unless McCain puts real money behind his spot and goes beyond just gaming it for earned media.
