When did you begin to read Liberal Blogsites?

I started after 9/11, wanting to find out why our supposedly brilliant intelligence community (as seen in the movies) couldn't stop the attack. I went thru the whole "Bush Knew" phase, but the more I read, the more I figured they knew something was coming, but not how big it would be, and let it happen 'cos they needed a reason to attack Iraq.

There wasn't anything but kos, Counterspin (Hesiod), MWO (sigh), bartcop, and Billmon back then, and I had already been on Yahoo boards because of the Ben Affleck tv show Push, Nevada. (totally fun treasure hunt show)

After abandoning the Coulter/Rall comment boards at Yahoo 'cos no one talked to each other, they just spewed crap, I found the blogs. When kos went to scoop and the meta shit began immediately afterwards, I followed Steve to Left Coaster, and Steve Gilliard to the newsblog. I used to play at Atrios' comment threads, but it got too busy for my taste.

Then dj complimented me on my grammar and syntax, so I followed him to L&L! The rest is history!

Can't recall exactly. It was probably shortly following 9/11/2001. I think probably instigated by the invasion of Afghanistan. For the life of me I can't remember when I registered at DailyKos. Musta been when they went to scoop? Is that when he started registering people? My user id # is 700 but I almost never commented. Just read the front page, rarely the comment threads. Found TLC via DKos in 2002 during the run up to Iraq. Mostly just enjoyed Steve's writing since I largely agreed with most things he wrote. Started commenting when I realized most commenters weren't any smarter than me. ;) I have a natural inclination to critique others comments. You might have noticed. Call it a flaw. Some would say 'dickishness'. TLC was always my first stop then drifted between there and The Whiskey Bar, Atrios, Newsblog and a few others.

And grammar is overrated.

Years ago, back when I was still in the Reserve. It was just after the 2004 election, and I was bitter and hungover and at work. I was feeling totally unrepresented, and so I went looking around on the internet for "liberal news." Sure enough, I found the Left Coaster, and shortly thereafter Low and Left.

Still don't remember when I started to comment.

Huh uh!

And my user id was, like, 12 or something, but I never could log on to kos at scoop, so I gave up on it. Back in those days, all they talked about was ratings and shit, and later, I started dropping by just to read the headlines on the diaries. Then came the pie fight. Yawn. I haven't been there for a long time, but Corrente posts a pic of the rec list every once in a while to show it's still on "kill Hill" mode. I swear, there is no difference in headlines between them and any right wing site.

I don't think I've ever come closer to actual capital "D" depression than when I woke up that November morning and realized that George Bush was gonna be president for another 4 years.

I know what you mean, snark. I remember my son and I kept yelling at Kerry to stop letting the swiftboaters have their way with him, and then he just conceded before all the votes in OH were counted. And his vague answer to the "voted for it, before I voted against."

I didn't read any blogs until I stopped working and couldn't find work. It was after my move to AZ, spring of 2004. I was really computer illiterate.

I googled Liberal... found "Liberal Oasis" and all "The Links".
Went to Veteran and Left categories. Found Mike at LEFT is RIGHT and TLC. Jo Fish and all the other blogging Vets at Democratic Veteran.

I loved Mike's site because I could surf through all his little connections and read every newspaper in the country if I wanted. Plus his Photos of the Day. I really liked how he put his site together.
I lurked for about 2 months and then started to ask Mike questions. I was really intimidated but he urged me to write more.

It was from Mike's site that I really surfed the blogs and different communities. Most places I couldn't figure out how to comment, so I didn't.

Then I really stepped in it at TLC. I posted under my real name in the beginning but got blown out of the water. So I reeled myself in, conducted a bunch of research, honed up on my thought process (I was going through a deep depression then) and my writing skills a lot more.
Then the election came up and I saw how everyone went batshit crazy.

Wanting something else to say except on politics... a few months later I followed coyote over to L & L.

Mike then asked me to contribute story's on my Veteran Affairs issues. I joined him there.

Then coyote, Matt and Id gave me an opportunity.

My grammar still sucks but I give it a whirl and try not get down on myself for my lack of education.

I've learned quite a bit. I have everyone who corresponds back to me to thank. You've all helped me improve.

What fun...

Everyone I've met on the nets is really important to me.

Mike really started it all for me... we are always in contact with one another... Someday I have to visit him in SoCal.

I can't leave out coyote, you've been an immense help... we even talked on the phone once!

Yes, I have to include snark ;)... especially when he's "dickish"... he makes me think... I hate it but he does make me see another viewpoint. Kinda like the boss who helps you improve and teaches you a thing or two.

Out of all the Veteran bloggers Lurch was by far the kindest.

DJ when he stopped by my house, we talked about writing and he told me I was doing it right... write, proofread, correct, proofread, correct... etc.
That's why it takes me so damn long on a story, or they come out incomplete.

I can't forget talking to Anjha by email.

I miss "the funny" tempus... It made my skin crawl when he went all lovey dovey...

Id, love his stuff... he's just way to smart for me.

Milo, What a joy to read... if only I started writing when I was that young...

I wish I could meet TIKI, but he's wary of people on the nets... I guess.

Well, I better stop... I'm getting all misty eyed... shit, sounds more like an obit...

SoS, you are making me get misty. Also, sounds a bit like you are accepting an award.

Congratulations ? ! ?

I started reading the blogs after Katrina. I am a late bloomer.

I started reading all the newspapers I could and the Congress sites and CSPAN - it was Washington Post that had a story and the "whose bloggging" link on the left took me to TLC. That is where I went and that is where I stayed.

I did not like any sites that made me register and I really like the UI of TLC. And, I really like the people.

Never read KOS and never went to any of the other sites unless people linked to them and I was reading background stuff.

Usually I spend way too much time reading on the nets. Several hours a day. I could have actually read my entire library by now if I spent that time with actual books. But I hate not knowing things and I hate just taking someone's word for it without doing my own research.

L&L was like family and I like that.
