Holiday Open Thread

OMG, Toyota's posting it's first operating loss since 1950! It's all the Unions fault... damn Unions, causing Toyota to go broke... oh yeah, Toyota doesn't have Union workers.
UPDATE: Just when I get flippant about Toyota and Unions, emptywheel puts out a great article on Toyota being a model for success.

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Solstice, Wonderful Kwanzaa and Happy New Year.

Thanks for putting up an open thread SoS.

We are waaaay snowed in. The most snow that I remember - or at least the longest that it ever sticks around. And, we have more coming.

We finally convinced my dad to come stay with us; now that it might be impossible to get him. Husband is out trying to get him right now.

Our house made it on the news twice. Once, last week, when buses got stuck out in front of it and now today, when husband was digging the car out to go get grandpa a news camera guy stopped and filmed and talked to him. It is B roll and may never show up but that just goes to show ya how bizarre that this storm is. AND more is coming. Husband said "that damned paparazi won't leave him alone!" Heh.

Kiddo shoveled the front walk and the snow is up to my knees. It warmed up today, to 30 degrees. Bizarro.

Merry xmas, SoS! I'll post pics of my snowbound self as soon as I can figure out how to get them offa the camera and onto my 'puter.

Oooh, which channel, Anjha? I've got the news on all day, as if something's going to change in the next 10 minits!

Sent you an email Coyote. Thought I might keep my house anonymous. (and my husband)...I hid when the news camera came out - both times. Do not want my pajama'd self showing up.

Are you OK? Do you have everything that you need?

We've still got snow but not much. 4 or 5 inches. Very cold today but it's gonna warm up for Christmas. Rain in Christmas Eve and clear on Christmas Day. Kids were hoping for more snow.

Oh sure, you just don't want the boss seeing you live.

Hey, how far apart to you guys live from each other?

Actually it is the opposite.

I want Boss to see how bad it is up here so that he gets it when I continue to do "couch office" for the next week.

Hey, how far apart to you guys live from each other?

I believe that it is under 10 miles but more than 3. Isn't it crappy that we've only seen eachother in real life a few times?!

I am a homebody and do not leave my house 'cept to go to the office and to the doctor...but my door is always open (except right now 'cause it is really cold, I have to yell at kiddo when he goes in and out - he only has about 3 seconds to slip through before I start yelling.)

'Bout 5 miles, but with the snow, about 100 miles. Anjha, I'm okay, just starting to feel trapped. My car's my freedom, and it's snowbound! I'm thinking of directing my parabolic heater on the driveway. Wonder if it'll melt it!

13 yo boys with snow shovels work really good too!

I actually like being stuck. I will start cooking as soon as I finish working - which comes next.

We are making a couple big pans of lasagna today! Yummy.

Then the Christmas cookies start! Yay!

Just started to rain here... looks like a repeat from last week, really wet. That's rare for AZ!

I'll take it, I love the rain.

Shoots our (my) travel plans down though. I was going to run the family to CO so the wife could see her family, it'd be only for a couple of days, but she really hates to travel in shitty weather.
I guess it's the thought that counts.

iamcoyote said...

Well, the heater didn't work, drat it! Hmmm. Will a hair dryer work?

iamcoyote said...

Anjha, I have piles of cookies that we've been plowing through. Never got to work to give them all away.

Oops, the neighbor thought chains would be a match for 8-12 inch snow on the road. Sadly, no.

No snow here in the mid-Atlantic. First two nights of Hannukah presents seemed to go over pretty well. Happy Hannukah, Merry Christmas, happy solstice.

Happy Hannukah, and Happy Solstice. The days are getting longer, yippee!

I'm pretty well snowed in, with a mean coverage of around 11 inches to a foot of snow total. We got hit really hard on the first pass, but this one has really added to the amount on snow on the ground. The good thing about it is that it put about 6 inches of fresh snow on the crust that was caused by the rain and freezing rain at the tail end of the first one.

I have been outside to remove the snow from the steps leading up to the deck three times today, and will need to do the same thing tomorrow. Looks like my shopping got really stalled out, but mebbe the 24th might be drivable...

Wish me luck....

Just this old chief's 2¢

And, have a Merry, Merry, and a Happy, Happy.... Makes ya live longer!

Hey Chief, I saw your area on the news, and boy, you've got it far worse than we do, though being unable to drive 'cos of snow, the results are the same. We may do xmas next week.
