Saying the Name of the Beast

John Edwards endorses Obama.

Not less than several hours after I point out that Milo's targets of venom for today were strong Edwards supporters before they voted for Sen. Clinton.

Gosh, how sad. I've lost respect for Edwards for this.

Well that was a courageous move on his part. Glad to know he won't be endorsing the Republican nominee!

Why?

Why me, why Edwards, or why snark and coyote?

Anyone want to take guesses or bets that Edwards was willing to endorse months ago? And that the Obama campaign sat on it until maximum effect?

Why would coyote lose respect for Edwards over this?

iamcoyote said...

idio just said why.

Don't you think they would have jumped at the chance to have this months ago?

Maximum affect? The race is done.

Although I agree that Edwards probably wanted to do it months ago but waited until he knew Obama was sure to be the nominee.

Either way, it makes Edwards look like a dick.

Dickish or not, he's the "cracker" Obama needs while he tours MI.

And he would be the perfect fit for V/P, though he says he doesn't want it. I think he's afraid he can't deliver Appalachia for Obama.

Mrs. Seven of Six called this earlier in the week. Saying that Obama was going to need to roll out the big guns for MI and FL. Her prediction is Al Gore for when Obama goes to FL.

Well, not when he just shit on them like that.

I don't think it makes him look like a dick I just think it was playing safe. Not coming out for the hit until the thing was already decided.

I would have liked him better if he hadn't endorsed at all. It would have kept him above that particular fray.

Wait a second - the Obama campaign sits on the endorsement, and it makes Edwards look like a dick? That doesn't compute to me.

It makes the Obama campaign pretty astute - IMO. They held on to Richardson's endorsement until the Friday after the first race speech (3/21). I strongly suspect they held on to Edwards' endorsement for the same reasons.

In other words - they're anticipating problems, and stocking favors to help smooth out campaign issues. Makes me wonder whom else they have pocketed.

I'm also beginning to wonder if the Edwards endorsement won't also be giving cover to the meltdown going on over the NARAL endorsement this morning. I know, if they were timed, they were designed to be a double-barreled assault, but I'm starting to think the real effect will be one covering over the other.

and it makes Edwards look like a dick?

Because he went along with it. It makes him seem opportunistic and calculating. Yeah, yeah, he's a politician, but I always thought more highly of him, somehow. If he gets AG, it may be worth it.

And yeah, It's a clever move, too. I understand he's got a cache of supers that he's been doling out daily to enhance the inevitable meme. I hope he's got a big one for women, because he's pissing us off left and right with this "sweetie" shit.

With all that's gone on the past few weeks I don't see them holding this if he was prepared to endorse earlier. But I never claimed to know much about politics.

I dunno about _decided_.

I think Edwards may think of it in terms of the coup de grace in a race that is just getting more acidic and inflammatory.

Stuff I'm reading says that these endorsements are not well arranged in advance. So there goes that.

idiosynchronic said...

Your DAUGHTER is the troll??

Damn, man, you need to take care of that.

I'm still wondering if Edwards saw the shit coming this morning after the NARAL endorsement and decided to throw up some cover.

iamcoyote said...

Didn't NARAL endorse Lieberman over Lamont?

I think it was great and I thought that it was excellent timing.

I think that Edwards sincerely anguished over endorsing. I think that he wanted to stay out of it.

I think that he came over when he saw that the Party is disintigrating and he wants to pull us together.

I think that he is saying "hey, enough fighting and trying to change the rules and crap, it is time to come together and support the probable nominee."

I was really sad when I saw him come out in the rally, I could see in his eyes that he had wanted those rallies to be for him. This could have been Edwards' year. We had some great candidates and I think that people were just so ready to cut all ties with the past that the newest person representing the biggest change was going to get it...I feel bad for Edwards and Clinton.

I am ready for a complete break and I see a statesman in Obama that I do not see in the others.

Edwards was my first choice and they looked great on the platform together...but I do not think Edwards wants to be a VP nom again. His heart is enormous and his causes are great and I do see him as a fighter; he would be great in whatever capacity in an Obama administration.

BTW - Biden says that he will not endorse because he does not want everything that he does after an endorsement be questioned as a posturing for a certain position in an administration - I do not think that we should do that to Edwards either, I do not think that he is vyying for a position, I think that he just feels that it is time to bring us together.

I am less cynical than most on this type of thing.
