Family Values

Family values means "supporting" your 17-year-old daughter's "decision" to follow through with an unplanned pregnancy and get married. Married at 17.

Bizarre. Forced motherhood has never felt like "family values" to me.

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned,"

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," she said.

Realize "very quickly" indeed. Who is really getting "punished" in this deal? The kid who has to "grow up too quick" or the baby who has to be raised by the kid who has to grow up too quick?

UPDATE: BTW Palin opposed sex ed. (obviously)

And, Obama says stay out of it to all of us. I agree for the most part. But the hypocrisy is stunning.

BTW. I believe that this is an issue that should not be touched with a 10 foot pole...excepting in pointing out the hypocrisy of it all.

Don't teach sex ed. Don't provide birth control. Then offer platitudes of the "miracle" of life and how great it is and oh it will be hard, but she will learn.

Blah, blah fucking blah.

These people are twisted (Republican family values folk) in their inability to teach reality and their extreme use of using reality as a "punishment."

The whole thing is so sad.

And another thing. I think it was crappy of Palin to accept the VP slot knowing that this was out there; knowing that her daughter would have to go through all of the scrutiny and judgment and shit being in the National spotlight.

I would not put my kid through that.

And to think, if only she was taught about the "Love Glove"... none of this would be a happening.

But I have question... to the family values crowd... does this mean in a loving moment of teenage bliss is this sin... or is it ok?

Well, as long as the sinning teenagers are punished for the rest of their lives, and forced into a marriage that they may not be ready for, it's all good.

Pandagon feels awfully damn justified right now. As they should.

I suppose, short of proving her daughters virginity, this was about the only way Palin was going to put to bed (sorry, I couldn't resist) the stories about her baby acually being her daughters.

I agree with Anjha. It is very revealing about Palin that she accepted the offer of the VP slot knowing that it would put this situation into the spotlight. An offer to good to refuse for a small time politician with <2 years of experience at anything greater than the local level. Just couldn't let opportunity pass by.

I'm sorry but the media has latched onto her background story. It's like a feeding frenzy now. If she didn't realize what she was getting herself into, she'll realize after this next 2 weeks. Fresh meat... sorry for the pun.

This is exactly what coyote meant about a whisper campaign that took its own legs.

I kinda feel that she will not hold up and tell everyone to fuck off... run back to Alaska.

Harriet Miers/SCOTUS. So, does McCain eat the humiliation and soldier on, or does he toss her and tap Mitt or Holy Joe? He's fucked either way, all for a petty theft of Obama's thunder. Funny!
