Will the Fat Piglet Sing?

Justice delayed? My only question is will Rove be handcuffed and arrested if he ignores the subpoena?

Yesterday Conyers issued a subpoena to Rove, requiring him to testify regarding his role in the Bush Administration's politicization of the Department of Justice, including the US Attorney firings and the prosecution of Don Siegelman. The subpoena calls for Rove to appear at a deposition on February 2.

As we all know, Karl has claimed "absolute immunity" from having to testify before Congress. But things have changed. Bush is no longer there to protect and support Rove's position, and the 'absolute immunity' position has been rejected by U.S. District Judge John Bates.
As Conyers has stated:
"I have said many times that I will carry this investigation forward to its conclusion, whether in Congress or in court. Change has come to Washington, and I hope Karl Rove is ready for it. After two years of stonewalling, it's time for him to talk." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

It is almost as if Rove never accepted the idea that times change and what was once acceptable one day may prove to be unacceptable the next. Personally, I hoping for handcuffs and arrest.

UPDATE: Rove has instructed his lawyer, Robert Luskin, to ask the Obama White House whether the same Executive Privileges currently exist. Gibbs said Obama's legal counsel was looking into it and studying the issue.

As someone pointed out, this move was a clever maneuver. Rove is forcing Obama to make a judgment call on Executive Privilege that could have ramifications later in his Presidency.

And if Conyers can force Rove to testify the dam will be breached and next will come Harriet & Gonzo. The train will be moving down the track and it will become impossible not to go after Cheney & Bush. Early am and hopeful news.

Good post Judith.

God Bless John Conyers. AND, we need to send him some love.

Seriously, Conyers was on his way to impeaching that MFer and Pelosi stopped him by "taking impeachment off of the table." Which is, in itself, a violation of the law. Where Princess Pelosi ever got the idea that she could unilaterally decide which portion of the Constitution that she would follow is beyond me.

I still wish that the Dems would have had a new leadership vote and brought in some good leaders.

We need some Dems who are just as good at political theatre as these Republican assholes. Barney Frank is good at political theatre; I wish the Dems would let him out there in front more often to speak to the TeeVees and their pundit asses.

If true, why would Obama even respond to Rove's lawyer? First of all, this seems an issue that Obama should stay out of. There has already been a ruling against Rove, so why would Obama not honor the judges ruling in this case?

Obama bought into a piece of the cake when he set out the memorandum denying the excuse the Bushies of priviledge because of national security. He set the stage for this and now Conyers, Whitehouse, Lehey and Holder will need to go for it.

Well, I suspect that Rove's lawyer will find an excuse for his client to avoid a deposition on Monday.

There a post by Paradox (I think) on how we should just move forward, a la Obama. I could not disagree more with both.

Bush set the stage for future abuses that we can't even imagine in our Government. We haven't seen anything yet if no one is taught they are not above the law.
