RIP

Farewell to our home base, The Left Coaster. Paradox has decided that he'll delete anyone who hurts his feelings, even long time supporters. Let us bow our heads, and mourn the passing of a once-great blog. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, even on the blogs. Goodbye, TLC - you'll be missed.

Update from Id: Principal writers, check your email. I've started an email discussion on what, if anything, we should do. If you have posting privileges, want to be part of the discussion, and did not get this email, let us know. Specifically - I can't find Milo's email address.

p-dip posted on TLC, said he's coming over here.

So, what'd you say, p-dip? I missed the fun!

iamcoyote said...

BTW, idio, I saw the first commercial for BSG! January 16th! Yippee!

Uh, petey, when p-dip invited people over here, he didn't mean you, fuckwad. Go lick paradox's balls, like a good little troll.

iamcoyote said...

So, p-dip's comment was deleted. Well, that's the end of it, I guess. Sad to see TLC turn into an Emo site, but what the hell.

phidipides said...

What climbed up pardoxes ass and died? I held on through TLC for a long time. I guess all things must end and change is the one constant we can depend on.

The first post I ever did at TLC -when there were about 3 people posting (Judith, Tiki, and 1 other I can't remember). I let them know I was a grand asshole and they should let me know when it's time to move on. I went there because Merrit over at Talk Left kept deleting me over things I was saying about Abu Ghraib (I guess she supported the ass rape of children at that time). Judith was the first person to welcome me and Steve followed suit saying another asshole was fine with him.

If it's okay with you guys, I'll make low and left the place I get my blogsturbation groove thang on.

I would share the pain SOS has caused but the memories are too fresh...too real... If you want a taste of my agony, imagine enduring a 6 hour presentation on investing in the market by Muck.

Where do you guys go to get the picture thing?

SNARK!

Or any picture you want to come up with.

Welcome phid...

Wow.

I managed to get myself deleted even after restraining myself.

Dammit Coyote, you are so hip. I just learned that term from my 13-yo and his friends a couple of weeks ago. They talk about the girls who are "Emo." Emo means "emotionally disturbed." They are the cutters and such. There are also "Emo Wannabes" - these are not actually emotionally disturbed girls - they are not actually cutters or bulemics or whatever but they are, apparently, emotionally disturbed enough to be "Emo Wannabes."

Damn there is a lot to learn about Jr High... and, apparently there is alot to learn about blogs that die.

I decided to work for an hour (since I had promised a task done by this morning) and lookit what happens!

Welcome P-Dip!!!!

And, I am not sure what it is that Snark demands in exchange for the ever so cool avatars [as you can see, ahem, I do not have one,] but, when you find out, please let me know and we will see if I can lower myself (or reach myself there) to get me one. *smirk*

Coyote asked me once, when Snark was drawing them, "what an Anjha looks like." I guess, because we are still trying to determine the answer to that, this might be the real reason behind the avatarless Anjha. (I would like a black panther or an Easter Lily - since Christmas is coming and all.)

Anjha said...

BTW - RIP John Lennon. This day has been hard for me for the last 28 years.

I have to get ready to go to the doctor - I am leaving the house for the first time in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck.

iamcoyote said...

Good luck, Anjha!

Seven of Six said...

Anjha any post with some boobies will probably get you a good looking avatar. Of course I trashed snark on the first one he made me, all artsy fartsy and stuff. Me the simple simon, the Lennie to his George...

Seven of Six said...

OMG, he has taken it way to fucking far now.

Snark's comment was innocent, mines are way harsher. What can I do to get deleted now...?

iamcoyote said...

I know! Mine is still there, and it's a direct hit on paradox's emo shit. I think he's spent too much time at Shakesville, where Melissa threw a tantrum and made everyone suck up to her with money and "we love yous" for a week before she came back as if nothing happened.

Dumbfuck.

Seven of Six said...

Ooooh, that would be great... throw in one of those lines like, "This ain't Shakesville paradox! Get off your high horse!"

idiosynchronic said...

What the hell . . I take a weekend, work my Saturday, spend Sunday with my family, and all hell breaks loose.

Which is to mean I find that you guys have given Judith keys.

Okay, not really. :)

I've always liked paradox the poster . . but obviously, paradox the administrator leaves something to be desired.

Judith - you have keys to the . .uh, well not kingdom, but I suppose the double-wide trailer. Congratulations, and you are very very welcome.

And p-dip can post any time.

idiosynchronic said...

Paradox is like Bush cutting diplomatic relations with France because it had a more awesome nuclear electric grid.

Just in case I or it disappears.

idiosynchronic said...

AND SNARK?? *livid*

"WTF, paradox? Is this about pain as in, "he asked too many good questions, and gave too many strong answers?"

How about you look over your left should there and flick Fucking Dick Nixon off your shoulder?"

phidipides said...

Luck!

Judith - you have keys to the . .uh, well not kingdom, but I suppose the double-wide trailer.

I saw that too. It convinced me this blog has some big brass 'uns and a problem with liquor. My kinda place!

Sad to see TLC turn into an Emo site...

Man, the Emo kids are a hoot! They aren't all cutters. A lot of gay and bi kids are Emo because it encourages kissing and sex with the same sex under the guise of turning the other sex on. For a lot of the kids it's really no more than just the fashion and hairstyle of the day, and expressing their individuality by looking and acting exactly like a lot of other kids. We've got some Emo American Indians around here. It's just too damn cute!

If you're a parent and want to stop it with your kids YOU start dressing Emo and drive your kids to school every morning. Make sure to drop your kid in front of their friends, and make your kid kiss you on the cheek or lips before they get out of the car.

iamcoyote said...

Whoa, I didn't know emos had their own clothing - my daughter (23) says that emo kids on the myspace thingy are just overly emotional types. Who knew it was a movement??

snark said...

I'll gladly supply an avatar for anyone interested. Just say the word.

I'm checking my email now!

Interesting - the id word to post is "restione" - I think that the Universe talked to my doctor.

Oh, and y'all are hippies.

Hell, I'll pull the trigger. What have you got?

I notice yours looks a bit like Salividor Dali or that Don Quicksietoastie guy. I don't want a clock dripping off a table. How about Butters as Professor Chaos, or maybe General Disarray (Southpark)?

CG, I think you need to make a blogger account in Google to grab CG as your blog name. As god is my witness, though, your secret is safe with me, Claire.

Anjha, thanks, but it's not a big deal. Maybe I'll set up another google email so I can just be CG. I never use that account.

iamcoyote said...

Oh yeah, google and blogger are intertwined now! But I understand. People sure did react differently when coyote finally came out as a girl. For some reason, before that, no one suspected! Heehee.

CG said...

Yay--I'm back! Thanks phid and anjha for the tips. I have a google gmail that I never really use and I didn't know I could set up a blogger profile. I'm all set now. Thanks for keeping my secret safe! I'll leave the other posts up for posterity.

So what the heck happened at TLC? I know Steve is taking time off, but what's up with paradox? And where's Turkana--he's my favorite poster.

idiosynchronic said...

Remember, when your pic gets scrunched down, it can be unintelligible. That's why the line drawings.

But some do alright - you can throw some color in there. Mine's a bit goofed, but intelligible.

Welcome to the party, CG!

Seven of Six said...

Awe, CG has the hang of putting pics in place already. How cool is that... snow, something I don't see here in the Phoenix area.

iamcoyote said...

Oooh pretty picture!

CG, I think paradox had a bad day. I think he has lots of bad days. Then he posts. Sad. He started deleting and banning people because someone said something that pissed him off. Then he wrote a post saying he'll delete anyone who "inflicts pain." Without explaining what that means.

Turkana got pissed a while back about something, too, can't remember what.

Anjha said...

You know, we all - or I should say, I - get my feelings hurt while blogging. It is because I put myself out there. If I did not risk putting myself out there, then I would lose out on all of the benefit of having actual intimate conversations. I would rather have real conversations, even if they are difficult or painful or hurtful or whatever, than remain hidden in my own head.

Seriously, there is all kinds of risk in intimacy. We all take it everytime that we hit "post" - but crap, isn't it worth it?

WE must have thicker skins or more open hearts - or both.

Paradox likes to pride himself on being in touch with his feminine or emotional being or whatever, but pain is part of that too.

phidipides said...

Awe, CG has the hang of putting pics in place already.

Where do I go to do that picture thingy?

That's it! I'm not sharing my bong!

I thought you said that was an Albuterol inhaler.

And I thought you were going to say, "...fall on his hump."

What hump?

CG said...

I love snow, especially the first snow of winter. That picture was taken in NJ last year. I was up there this weekend and it snowed--first snow I've seen this year.

I really don't get my feelings hurt online. I've formed relationships--close relationships--with people on an allergy message board I post on. They've become friends and we've met in real life. But unless I have a relationship with someone, they can't hurt my feelings. I'd be bummed if one of you guys totally insulted me, but I'd get over it. Someone did say something rude once (can't remember who--see what I mean) and some of you jumped to my defense, which was nice. If I was writing for the blog, that would be different--that really is putting yourself out there and Anjha said. But I suppose criticism is to be expected if you're going to do that. Especially on a political blog.

Thanks for creating a new home here!

Talk to iac. I'm not sure how it works, but the note says most everyone.

Good lord, Bush gets to appoint the Car Czar. The single most incompetent leader this country has ever seen, and he gets to appoint a Car Czar. Looking at the way the Mad King, idiot son of George the weak and Bar the drunk, handled the war on "Terra", we are all soon to be driving Trabants manufactured without steering wheels and modified to run on Whale oil.

Seven of Six said...

Bagley, Long time no hose... a bit embarrassed about the election outcome?

No congratulations to us liberals?

You guys sure did disappear after the economic meltdown... nothing to say?

My conservative neighbor across the street (transplant from Oklahoma no less) said, "8 years of disastrous bu$h policies and not seeing a difference with McCain forced me to vote for a black liberal with the middle name 'Hussein'! Who would have ever figured that?"

Of course I LOL!

iamcoyote said...

Hey, my first instinct is to delete on sight those guys. Steve never gave me the go-ahead, so I left 'em unless they were outright racist or sexist. People tend to want to toy with them, but it's a dumb game to me.

Up to youse guys.

iamcoyote said...

People tend to want to toy with them, but it's a dumb game to me.

Gosh, hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings with that line...

Seven of Six said...

Ah, they don't have nothing positive to add. Just more hot air... they have been wrong about everything for years and still can't admit that.

Anjha said...

People tend to want to toy with them, but it's a dumb game to me.

I find it interesting. People's wit and the quickness with which they wield it is a phenom. I do not smile as much throughout my day as I do when a troll is taken down with swift intellect.

Gosh, hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings with that line...

Na. It is not when someone disagrees with me, it has been at times when I posted something too quickly, especially when I was new to the blogworld, and regretted the words that I had typed and got shit for it. I suppose that is different than "hurt feelings" but CG clarified what I meant.

Seven of Six said...

Woo-Hoo... 69!

WooHoo, nuked my first terra-rist!

If you have to ask, then it ain't worth tellin'.

But Muck should realize that ah'm keepin' an eye on his ass, and it ain't because he's so damn sexy.

phidipides said...

I do not smile as much throughout my day as I do when a troll is taken down with swift intellect.

You nailed it there, Anjha.

Trolls can be fun, unless they get into that far right nonsense where every response they give is "Clinton got a blowjob" or "Obama is a Muslim." I don't think an automatic purge is necessary unless it just gets really stupid. Of course, I only speak for myself.

You might want to drive-by the Open Threads for awhile and let folks know.

Why? They don't have open threads here? Gas is $1.49 in my little red state.

Judith said...

"Judith was the first person to welcome me and Steve followed suit saying another asshole was fine with him."

Phidipides, that's why I love ya.

Has Steve retired from TLC?

I'm at a loss as to what is going on in Paradox's head, but what the hell, the fun people are here now.

Judith said...

Idio, I tried to tell them they were making a mistake. See what happens when you leave the kids alone.

Judith said...

Seems this all ended (or started) when K2 made a comment that Paradox lacked writing skills.

P-dip jumped in to defend Paradox, and the next thing that happens is P-dip's post is deleted. Go figure

Personally, I think Paradox has some issues, but unfortunately instead of dealing with them on a personal level, he lashes out at those at TLC as though they are the problem. TLC will not survive with his attitude.

Judith said...

Still trying to figure this damn thing. Hopefully I will be up and running shortly (maybe).

iamcoyote said...

You did it, Judith, you got a picture. Wow, you're a fast learner!

Yeah, paradox has issues. Sad.

Anjha said...

I do not think that it is OK to just let this ride and not say anything or do anything.

Seriously. If hissy fits and drama queens get their way by engaging in one small action and we all just go away and allow it to go forward - we are really not doing said drama queen who threw the hissy fit any favors.

Seriously. That is enabling and I do not think that it is helpful or loving.

I think that we need to demand an explanation and/or an apology.

Even though most of the comments on that thread have been deleted, there were a lot of long-time posters and visitors to TLC who were "hurt and confused."

Talk about "causing pain."

iamcoyote said...

I totally understand, Anjha. And your comment over there was a good one. I noticed Bagley's comment is still there, so obviously whatever possessed paradox to start purging regulars and people who inflict "pain" has passed.

I get the feeling that paradox just had a bad tantrum, maybe envisioned hundreds of loyal followers in the comments begging to know how they could make him better like Melissa at Shakesville did after the election in which she netted thousands of dollars, basically holding the blog for ransom, which is why I stopped going there. It's fine, it's her blog, and TLC's paradox's blog now. Unfortunately, he's erratic, most of the time incomprehensible, always riding some emotional wave up or down, and really, truly, could benefit from a couple composition courses, and a valium. The violence he does to the language is way worse than any pain inflicted on or by trolls.

phidipides said...

Nice pic, Judith!

I've gotta get a different one. I like Marty Feldman, but maybe Snark can suggest something or come up with one of those neat line drawings.

Phidipides, that's why I love ya.

Hey, a person needs a blog home that they can go to first thing during the day. LLPD suits that purpose for me. It's like your favorite new bar or restaurant. It's not that you don't go to other places, but the place you're at is something special to you.

If you put thought and time into a response and it suddenly disappears you've lost a chunk of time and a little piece of yourself. Your blog home should let you say what you want, and if you're a really big asshole or say something off base your blog home colleagues should be able to call you out with no hard feelings. That's what the old blog home did for me, and I hope that's what the new one does for me.

There is not a single person I see posting here who hasn't at one time or another called me -in so many words- an asshole (of course, I'm always sweet and even tempered, so I just don't understand how you guys don't always agree with me even if it's just to keep from hurting my bitty feelings). You've all, at one timer or another, changed my perspective and/or forced me to check my assumptions. You make me stretch.

Talk about "causing pain."

No pain at all. I give the internet tubes machine some gas, rev this blog up, see that iac and SOS have been hard at work early, and there are some things I want to say. I'll be strapping on the Kevlar and ceramic internet tubes armor, loading the weapons of my tiny little mind, and I'm going to go have some fun! There is no pain at all! Life is damn good!

iamcoyote said...

Gadzooks! Who would call you an asshole???
